Your data

How do I sync between iPhone, iPad and Mac?

iCloud sync is part of Pro. Sign in to the same Apple Account on each device and install Punch Clock on each. If you've just gone Pro, sync turns on the next time you open the app; Settings → iCloud Sync shows its status.

Where are my backups?

Punch Clock writes a backup on your device every day you open it and keeps the newest 14, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. Go to Settings → Data → Backups to see them with their date and number of shifts. Restoring replaces your current data, so the app takes one more backup first.

How do I move to a new Android phone?

Punch Clock is included in Android's own backup to your Google account, so when you set up the new phone from that backup, your shifts, settings and daily backups come back. You can also export a JSON file (Settings → Data → Export all as JSON) and use Import JSON on the new phone.

How do I export or move my data?

Settings → Data exports everything as JSON or CSV, free. Import JSON merges a file back in without deleting anything, which is also how you move to a new device without iCloud or Android backup.

Does Punch Clock work offline?

Yes. Everything is stored on your device, and iCloud sync catches up when you're back online.

Hours and pay

I forgot to punch out. What now?

After 10 hours on the clock Punch Clock sends a reminder with "Still working" and "Punch out now". If a shift is still open next time you open the app, the Fix shift sheet asks for the real end time. You can change the reminder threshold, or turn it off, in Settings → Notifications. Any entry can also be edited in the Day view.

My overtime looks wrong.

Overtime rules are part of Pro. Check Settings → Rate & pay rules: the daily and weekly overtime limits, the multiplier, the unpaid break and rounding. Daily overtime is counted first, then weekly overtime on the regular hours left, and a shift counts on the day it started. The week starts on the day set in Settings. The overtime calculator uses the same rules if you want to check a week by hand.

How do I send a timesheet?

Open Reports, choose Timesheet, pick the range, jobs and format, and tap Export. Text and CSV are free; PDF and Excel are Pro. More about timesheets.

How do I create an invoice?

From the timesheet, tap Create invoice, or start one in Invoices. The client, period and unbilled shifts are filled in. More about invoices.

Android

I don't get the shift notification or reminders.

Punch Clock asks to send notifications the first time you punch in. If you said no, open your phone's Settings → Apps → Punch Clock → Notifications and turn them on. Without them the app still works, and a shift left open is fixed the next time you open the app.

How do I punch in without opening the app?

Add the Punch Clock widget to your home screen, add the Punch Clock tile to Quick Settings (swipe down twice, tap the pencil and drag it in; it works on the lock screen), or long-press the app icon for Punch In, Punch Out and Hours Today. While you're on the clock, the notification has a Punch out button.

Mac

How do I change what the menu bar shows?

In Settings on the Mac, choose whether the menu bar shows the time on the clock, and whether it adds your earnings. Turn the time off and only the icon shows.

What is "Away 22 min"?

If you're punched in and the Mac sees no activity for 15 minutes (adjustable), Punch Clock asks when you're back whether that time counts. "Don't count it" ends the shift when you went idle and starts a new one on your return.

Plans and purchases

What does Pro cost?

$4.99 a month, $29.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $49.99 once for Lifetime, on the App Store and Google Play. Prices are in US dollars; the store shows the price for your country before you pay. A purchase covers the devices on the same store account: Apple devices for the App Store, Android devices for Google Play.

How do I cancel a subscription?

iPhone, iPad and Mac: subscriptions are managed by Apple. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Mac, open the App Store → your name → Account Settings → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge.

Android: subscriptions are managed by Google Play. Open the Google Play app → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, or in Punch Clock go to Settings → Manage subscription. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

I bought Pro but the app doesn't show it.

iPhone, iPad and Mac: open Settings → Restore Purchases while signed in to the Apple Account you bought with. One purchase covers Punch Clock on all your Apple devices with that account.

Android: make sure Google Play is signed in to the Google account you bought with, then open Settings → Restore purchases in Punch Clock.

How do I get a refund?

iPhone, iPad and Mac: purchases go through Apple, so refunds do too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Android: refunds follow Google Play's policies. Within 48 hours of buying you may be able to request one from Google Play (how); after that, email us with your Google Play order ID.
